Newsbin Pro Newsreader Review

Newsbin automatically combines complicated multi-part binary posts to create one file and includes many options for organizing your downloaded files.

Advantages

  • Easy to use interface
  • Good multiple server support
  • SSL encryption
  • Great compatibility with usenet providers
  • Continuously product enhancements
  • Search Usenet via the Internet

Disadvantages

  • Newsbin Pro costs $35, this is a one time fee, after that you can update to newer versions for free. There are users using Newsbin Pro for over 8 years, so that's about $4 a year.

Newsbin has an easy to use interface and a good multiple server support. The $35 is a one time fee. The software is excellent for beginners and experts. If you do use Giganews you will get a $10 discount for a special version of Newsbin Pro which does only work with Giganews.

I've been using Newsbin Pro for 7 or 8 years now, and it is one of the best software investments I've ever made. The 64 bit version is blazing fast and every other newsreader I've tried has fallen far short of Newsbin Pro on both features and performance.

There is no mention in the features listed about the AutoPAR facility which provides automated checking/repair and decoding of RAR archives which are accompanied by PAR2 files (which most are). This feature is a great time saver.

I have used NewsBin Pro so long now I can't remember exactly how long it has been. The developers continually update their software. Support from the authors and users on the NewsBin forums is second to none. The $35 registration price is beyond fair and includes lifetime upgrades. I have tried many of the other competitors and none come close to NewsBin!
